The American mezzo-soprano Marianne Cornetti, one of the leading Verdi singers in the world, is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time. Roles including Azucena, Amneris (Aida), Prinzessin Eboli (Don Carlos), Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Abigaille (Nabucco) and Lady Macbeth (Macbeth) have taken to many leading theatres, including the Vienna and Munich state operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala Milan, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Metropolitan Opera in New York and to Brussels, Barcelona, Peking and Tokyo. Future engagements include the Princess of Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvreur in Palermo, Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera at the Bolschoi in Moscow and Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana at the Met. She has also performed in Japan, in Gianni Schicchi and L’Enfant et les sortiléges. Marianne Cornetti is also much sought after for Wagner roles: recent engagements have included Ortrud (Lohengrin) in Paris and Amsterdam and Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde) in Rome. Her discography includes recordings of Puccini’s Edgar with Placido Domingo and Cilea's L’Arlesiana, a role she also sang with the New York Opera Orchestra under Eve Queler in the Carnegie Hall.
