General Music Director Sebastian Weigle thrilled audiences in Frankfurt during the 2015/16 with a new production of Glinka's Iwan Sussanin, revivals of Korngold's Die tote Stadt (available on CD - OehmsClassics), Der Rosenkavalier, two Ring cycles and the astonishing new production of Berg's Wozzeck. During the 2016/17 season he conducts new productions of Flotow's Martha and Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin and revivals of Der Spieler/The Gambler, Arabella and Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman. He returns to the Met in New York in 2017 for Fidelio and a new production of Der Rosenkavalier. In 2014/15 he conducted highly successful new productions of Hänsel und Gretel, Der Rosenkavalier and Bohuslav Martinů's Julietta, a work which had never been performed in Frankfurt before. He also returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for Strauss' Die Liebe der Danae, a work he conducted in Frankfurt in 2014. This former Staatskapellmeister at the Staatsoper Berlin and General Music Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona has enjoyed great success in recent seasons at other leading opera companies, including Zurich Opera, the Semperoper in Dresden, the Hamburg, Munich and Vienna state operas, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the Bayreuth and Tokyo Spring festivals. Live recordings of operas conducted by Sebasian Weigle at Oper Frankfurt to date (all OehmsClassics) are: Reimann's Lear, Die Königskinder, La fanciulla del West, Ariadne auf Naxos, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Wagner's Ring (also on DVD) and three early Wagner operas. In 2003 he was voted »Conductor of the Year« by Opernwelt magazine for his interpretation of Die Frau ohne Schatten in Frankfurt.
