Ewa Płonka is back in Frankfurt, where she sang Mary in Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman and Maddalena in Rigoletto last season, to sing Azucena in this new production of Il Trovatore . This Polish musician began her artistic career as a concert pianist. She studied in Poznan / Poland, Norway and the USA before going to the Juilliard School in New York to study singing. She made her debut in the Carnegie Hall in 2013, sang the Witch (Hänsel und Gretel) at the New York Lyric Opera and Adelia in The Armida Project at the New Opera NYC. Future engagements take her to Dallas Opera and the San Antonio Philharmonic. Concert work has included appearances with the Nürnberg Smphony and Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra. She won a scholarship from the International Meistersinger Akademie in Nürnberg in 2014 and many awards, including First Prize at the New Jersey Assication of Verismo Opera, the Deborah Voigt Special Prize at the 2014 International Marcello Giordani singing competition and 3rd Prize at the 2014 Gerda Lissner Foundation Vocal Competition.
