The award winning set and costume designer Jon Morrell studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London. He worked with David Alden in Frankfurt on this production of Rossini's La gazza ladra, returning in 2017/18 for a new production of Peter Grimes directed by Keith Warner. He and David Alden have worked together for many years, on productions including Catalani's Loreley at the Theater St. Gallen, where they also staged Medea in Corinto, Otello at ENO, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Maometto II at Santa Fe Opera and an Olivier Award winning production of Jenůfa at Houston Grand Opera. He designed the costumes for Madama Butterfly (dir: Floris Visser) at Oper Graz in 2020, where he returned to design the set and costumes for Hans Werner Henze's Ballett Undine. He and the director Karolina Sofuliak staged Un Ballo in Maschera at the Royal Danish Opera and Den Norske Opera. Other work has included invitations to the Royal Danish Ballett (Blixen, Cinderella, Queen of Spades) and many productions for San Francisco Ballet, New York City Ballet, Scottish Ballet and The Royal Ballet in Covent Garden. He designed the costumes for Anything Goes at the Barbican in London in 2021 and his costumes for the musical Top Hat in London won him an Olivier Award.
